| Carolina Canines For Veterans Carolina Canines has a prisoner program, where the dogs stay with prisoners, and learn all of the requirements to become a Service Dog. However, there is a new program that is a bit different; the dogs are being trained by Marines at the Brig (Marine Corps Jail) aboard Camp Lejeune. Not only are the brigmates training them, but the dogs in training are intended for use for disabled veterans (all services) coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan. This program is NOT SUPPORTED by the government and relies only on donations. The Department of Veterans Affairs, along with the Disabled American Veterans, and other Veterans organizations, have donated small amounts to help but not nearly enough to cover the costs of running the program, including feeding and vet care for the dogs. These Service dogs are giving wounded warriors a chance at becoming normal and independent lives. On top of all that, a majority of these dogs are coming from shelters so not only are the disabled veterans getting a second chance but so are the dogs. This is the only Military service dog program available. If you think you can help this organization who is helping our veterans free of charge, we are asking you to consider donating only $5. Please take a couple of minutes to donate all donations are Tax Deductible. http://www.carolinacanines.org/donations.html We donate collars for the dogs, and if you visit their website you can see the sorts of things that they are in need of. http://www.carolinacanines.org/militaryprogram.html Please feel free to pass this information along to others who may be able to help. |
